Ferrum needed a partner for securely integrating existing industrial devices with Google Cloud at scale. The goal was an open-source telemetry data solution for product efficiency. The main hurdle was scalable field-to-cloud communication for their devices . Additionally, efficient, secure remote updates for their global machines were required to deliver features and minimize downtime.
SOTEC and Google created a robust, scalable platform based on Eclipse Hono for protocol-independent, unified device connection. It runs natively on Google Kubernetes Engine and integrates with Cloud Pub/Sub. A Terraform script automated the deployment in GCP. SOTEC also implemented a secure Over-The-Air update functionality.
Ferrum’s new platform seamlessly connects globally distributed equipment to GCP cloud analytics. This enables reliable, scalable data flow, driving enhanced remote and predictive maintenance, plus optimized ramp-ups for customers worldwide. Over-the-air update capability ensures secure and up-to-date operation over time in the field.
